Mahalaya Amavasya Tithi Shraddha is performed for those deceased family members who died on Amavasya Tithi, Purnima Tithi, and Chaturdashi Tithi – by Natural death. If someone is not able to perform Shraddha on all the three Thithis, then single Shraddha on this day may be done to appease all deceased souls in the family. If the death anniversary of ancestors is not known or forgotten, then those Shraddhas can be performed on this tithi. Hence, Amavasya Shraddha is also known as Sarvapitra Amavasya.
