Importance of Bhagavad Gita and Gita Homam
Bhagavad Gita, often referred to as “The Gita”, is a 700-verse ancient Indian scripture that holds profound importance in the world of philosophy, spirituality, and literature. The Gita is a conversation between Arjuna (Pandava Prince) and Lord Krishna, who serves as his charioteer (read as a mentor) and divine guide in the battle-field of Kurukshetra.
The Bhagavad Gita offers guidance on how to navigate the complexities of life and make ethical choices. At its core, the Gita addresses the concept of Dharma, the righteous duty or path one must follow in life.
Gita Homam
Gita Homam or Geeta Homam is performed everyday offering Ahuthis to Lord Yajneshwara chanting the seven hundred verses of Bhagavad Gita or simply the Gita during the solar month of Dhanurmasa. It is followed by a short discourse about Lord Sri Krishna and Bhagavad Gita. It is considered vey auspicious to perform Pujas and Fire Ceremonies during the Dhanurmasa dedicated to Lord Vishnu or Lord Srimannarayana.
As a part of Homam related to Lord Krishna, many other Mantras like Purusha sooktam, Narayana Suktam, Vishnu suktam are also chanted during the Homam.

Dhanurmasa Significance
Dhanurmasa, the solar month is a sacred and spiritually significant month in the Hindu Panchangam. It typically falls between mid-December and mid-January. Dhanurmaas month spans for a period of 30 days, and it is believed to be the time when Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad-Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. This divine event is celebrated through various Pujas, Havan or Homas, rituals, prayers and cultural activities during this auspicious month.
