Navaratri & Goddess Chandi

Goddess Chandi is the fierce aspect of the Mother Goddess, who destroys Asuras, Rakshasas, negativities, and weaknesses from the universe. She is the protector of the righteous and the destroyer of the unrighteous, and takes one to the ultimate goal of Moksha (salvation), by helping each individual to fight and defeat the inner negative forces.

Goddess Chandi is the central deity of the Navaratris. Her different manifestations as Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, and Siddhidatri are invoked and offered Pujas on different nights of the Sharannavaratri (Dusshera) festival.

Udupi Sri Kshetra

Udupi Sri Kshetra, located in the coastal town of Udupi in Karnataka, India, is a revered pilgrimage site known for its deep spiritual significance and its association with the Dwaita (dualism) Philosophy of the Hindu Sanatan Dharma.

Udupi Sri Krishna

The main attraction of Udupi Sri Kshetra is the Krishna Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna, which was established by the revered philosopher-saint Madhvacharya in the 13th century.

Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dwaita school of Vedanta, emphasized a dualistic interpretation of reality, asserting a fundamental distinction between the individual soul (Atman) and the Supreme Being (Brahman). According to Dwaita philosophy, the relationship between the soul and God is one of eternal difference, with God being the supreme, omnipotent entity and the soul existing in a subordinate position. The temple remains a vibrant center for worship, pilgrimage, and the study of Dwaita Vedanta, continuing to attract devotees and scholars alike.

Ashta Mathas | Udupi Sri Krishna Kshetra

The temple complex also includes several other smaller shrines and is managed by a group of eight Mathas (monastic institutions) established by Madhvacharya himself.

The spiritual atmosphere of Udupi Sri Kshetra is enriched by its association with teachings of Madhwacharya and the ongoing practices of Dwaita philosophy, which emphasize Bhakti (devotion) to God and the importance of ethical living according to divine principles.
